Full Job Description

Help a young person feel confident in education again.

Not every young person finds a classroom an easy place to learn.

For some, anxiety can make education feel overwhelming — and before academic progress can happen, they first need someone who understands them, builds their trust and makes learning feel manageable again.

Specialist SEND Group is looking for a patient, nurturing and experienced SEMH Tutor to provide 1:1 support to a young person in Stockport, helping them continue their education through a personalised approach to Maths and English.

This is about much more than delivering lessons. It’s about understanding that some days progress might look like completing a task, having the confidence to ask a question, or simply feeling comfortable enough to engage.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Delivering tailored 1:1 Maths and English sessions.
  • Supporting a young person experiencing anxiety and SEMH needs.
  • Building a consistent, trusting relationship.
  • Creating a calm, low-pressure learning environment.
  • Adapting lessons to suit the learner’s emotional wellbeing and engagement.
  • Helping rebuild confidence, motivation and a positive relationship with education.
  • Celebrating small steps as well as academic achievements.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience supporting young people with SEMH, anxiety or barriers to education.
  • Are a qualified teacher, experienced tutor or education professional.
  • Can deliver engaging Maths and English lessons at the appropriate level.
  • Understand that behaviour is communication and that every learner needs a different approach.
  • Are patient, emotionally aware and able to build genuine connections.
  • Want a role where your impact goes beyond the classroom.

Why this role matters

The right tutor can be the person who helps a young person realise that education doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

Someone who makes them feel understood.
Someone who helps them take the next step.
Someone who reminds them that they can learn.

If that sounds like the kind of work you want to do, we’d love to hear from you.

Apply today or contact Specialist SEND Group to find out more.
