Bank SEND Teaching Assistant – Runcorn

We are looking for reliable, caring and confident Bank SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils across SEND settings in Runcorn.

This is a flexible bank position, ideal for individuals with experience in SEND, education, youth work, care, behaviour support or mentoring who are looking for additional work alongside existing commitments.

As a bank Teaching Assistant, shifts can vary depending on the needs of the school and may include full days, part days and short-term or longer-term cover. You can have flexibility around the shifts you accept, making this a great opportunity for candidates looking to fit work around other commitments.

You will be supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to engage in education, develop their confidence and access learning in a safe and supportive environment.

The Role

As a Bank SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work as part of the school’s wider team to provide consistent, individualised support.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 or small-group support to pupils with SEND
• Supporting pupils to access learning and participate in classroom activities
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties and other additional needs
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Using calm and appropriate strategies when pupils become dysregulated
• Encouraging independence, confidence and communication
• Adapting activities and learning approaches to meet individual needs
• Supporting pupils during lessons, break times and other school activities
• Following individual support plans, behaviour plans and EHCP outcomes where appropriate
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
• Maintaining clear and professional boundaries
• Supporting safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of pupils
• Providing consistent support and communicating effectively with the school team

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties or behaviours that challenge would be particularly beneficial.

Experience within schools, specialist settings, residential care, children’s services, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching or similar support environments will also be considered.
