Job Description:  (PMLD) Special Needs Technology Specialist – relocation to Doha 

SEND is seeking a passionate Technology Specialist. You will play a crucial role in enhancing the independence and functionality of individuals with disabilities by assessing, implementing, and supporting assistive technologies. They conduct assessments to identify specific needs, select appropriate AT solutions, and collaborate with stakeholders to implement them effectively. Continuous monitoring and adjustment of AT interventions ensure they meet changing needs. Advocacy for universal design principles and collaboration with educators promote accessibility in educational settings. Transition planning assistance ensures successful transitions for students. Qualified candidates possess a relevant bachelor’s degree, ATP certification, experience in working with diverse disabilities, and strong knowledge of assistive technologies. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment: Conduct assessments to identify the specific needs of students with special needs, evaluating their abilities, challenges, and learning environments.
  2. Selection and Customisation: Based on assessment results, select or customise appropriate assistive technology (AT) solutions to meet individual student needs, including communication boards, speech-generating devices, adapted keyboards, and software programs.
  3. Implementation and Training: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and stakeholders to implement selected AT solutions in educational settings. Provide training and support to ensure effective use of technology by students, teachers, and caregivers.
  4. Monitoring and Adjustment: Continuously monitor the effectiveness of AT interventions, assessing student progress and adjusting strategies as needed to address changing needs or goals.
  5. Promotion of Universal Design: Promote principles of universal design for learning (UDL) to ensure accessibility of educational materials and environments for all students, including those with special needs. Advocate for the use of accessible formats and digital resources.
  6. Advocacy and Collaboration: Collaborate with educators, administrators, and professionals to advocate for the integration of AT into educational policies, practices, and curriculum development. Advocate for funding and resources to support AT initiatives.
  7. Transition Planning: Assist in transition planning for students moving between educational settings or transitioning to post-secondary education, employment, or independent living. Identify and facilitate the use of AT tools to promote successful transitions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Engineering, Special Education, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of a wide range of assistive technologies and their applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
