Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide support for a Year 6 student with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role involves working closely with the student on Fridays, focusing on providing one-on-one support and engagement through sports activities to help regulate their behavior and promote positive interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one support and guidance to a Year 6 student with SEMH needs, focusing on behavioral regulation and emotional support.
- Engage the student in sports activities and physical exercises as a means of promoting emotional regulation and positive behavior.
- Assist the student in developing social skills, conflict resolution strategies, and coping mechanisms to navigate challenging situations.
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to develop and implement personalized strategies and interventions to support the student’s academic and social-emotional development.
- Monitor the student’s progress and behavior, providing regular feedback and updates to the teacher and relevant stakeholders.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where the student feels supported, valued, and encouraged to participate.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, preferably in an educational setting.
- Understanding of behavior management strategies and techniques, particularly in supporting students with SEMH needs.
- Passion for working with children and young people, with a compassionate and patient demeanor.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
- Relevant qualifications or training in supporting students with SEMH needs (desirable but not essential).
