Job description:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school. This is a rewarding opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis, supporting a learner with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to access learning, build confidence, and thrive within the classroom environment.

The Role:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored, individualised support to a pupil with additional needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies that support both academic progress and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND throughout the school day
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the individual needs of the learner
  • Support communication, engagement, and social interaction
  • Use strategies such as visual aids, now and next boards, or sensory approaches where appropriate
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil to support their development
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in a calm and supportive manner
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and inclusion of the pupil at all times

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with SEND (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or similar needs)
  • A patient, calm, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • An understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications or training (desirable but not essential)

What We Offer:

  • Flexible working options (part-time and full-time roles available)
  • A supportive and inclusive school environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and training
  • A chance to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey

If you are passionate about supporting SEND learners and want to be part of a nurturing school community, we would love to hear from you.
