Special Needs Assistive Technology Specialist

Are you passionate about making a significant impact on the educational experiences of students with special needs? We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEND Assistive Technology Specialist to join a dynamic team and contribute to the promotion of inclusive educational opportunities for students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Analysis: Conduct thorough assessments to determine the specific needs of students with special needs, evaluating their abilities, challenges, and learning environments.
  2. AT Solution Selection: Based on assessment results, select or customize appropriate Assistive Technology (AT) solutions, including communication boards, speech-generating devices, adapted keyboards, or software programs tailored to individual learning styles and abilities.
  3. Collaboration and Implementation: Collaborate with teachers, parents, and stakeholders to implement selected AT solutions in educational settings. Provide training and ongoing support to ensure effective use by students, teachers, and caregivers.
  4. Continuous Monitoring and Adjustment: Continuously monitor the effectiveness of AT interventions, regularly assessing students’ progress, and adjusting strategies as needed to address changing needs or goals.
  5. Promotion of Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Advocate for the principles of UDL to ensure accessible educational materials and environments for all students, including those with special needs. Promote the use of accessible formats, digital resources, and AT tools supporting diverse learning styles.
  6. Advocacy and Collaboration: Collaborate with educators, administrators, and professionals to advocate for the integration of AT into educational policies, practices, and curriculum development. Advocate for funding and resources to support AT initiatives within schools and districts.
  7. Transition Planning: Assist in transition planning for students with special needs, facilitating the use of AT tools and supports to promote successful transitions between educational settings or to post-secondary education, employment, or independent living.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).
  • Experience in supporting students with special needs.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in the field of assistive technology.
