Full Job Description

Elementary School Counselor
Inspire. Support. Empower.

SEND is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary School Counselor to join an amazing International IB School community. This role is essential in supporting the social-emotional well-being young learners while also laying the foundation for future academic and personal success. The successful candidate will bring both heart and expertise to the role, supporting students, collaborating with educators, and engaging families in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualised and group counseling sessions that address students’ emotional, social, and developmental needs.

  • Work closely with teachers and administrators to implement school-wide well-being initiatives.

  • Design and deliver age-appropriate lessons and activities related to self-awareness, emotional regulation, social skills, and decision-making.

  • Support transitions within school levels and prepare students for future academic pathways.

  • Partner with families to navigate challenges and promote positive home-school communication.

  • Coordinate and host workshops for students and parents focused on resilience, self-esteem, friendships, and healthy relationships.

  • Collaborate with external professionals as needed to support student well-being.

  • Uphold a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where all students feel seen and supported.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Advanced Diploma in Counseling or a related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in counseling roles, with a strong foundation in career and academic advising.

  • Familiarity with the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and an understanding of international school contexts.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills—able to build trust with students, parents, and staff alike.

  • Proven ability to tailor counseling approaches to individual student needs.

  • Experience coordinating events such as college fairs, future pathways workshops, and skill-building sessions in areas like resume writing and interview techniques.

Values and Professional Attitudes

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for empowering young people to thrive personally and academically.

  • Approach sensitive issues with empathy, discretion, and respect.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice.

  • Thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

  • Celebrates and promotes cultural diversity and inclusion.

This is more than just a counseling position—it’s an opportunity to guide, uplift, and empower the next generation from their earliest school experiences. If you believe in the power of connection, guidance, and emotional intelligence, we would love to hear from you. Claire@sendinternational.co.uk or call 00 44 1925 909429
