About the Role

We are recruiting Residential Child Care Officers who will be at the heart of supporting children and young people in our residential homes. This role is about much more than providing care—it is about being a consistent, positive presence in the lives of young people who may have faced adversity, trauma, or disruption.

You will work as part of a close-knit team to provide safe, nurturing, and structured environments where young people feel accepted, valued, and empowered. Through a relational approach, you will build strong, trusting relationships that encourage growth, healing, and positive futures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day care and support for children and young people in the home.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships based on empathy, respect, and consistency.
  • Support young people in daily routines, education, activities, and personal development.
  • Promote independence, resilience, and positive behaviour.
  • Implement individual care and support plans in collaboration with colleagues and professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to the monitoring of progress and outcomes.
  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
  • Actively engage in team meetings, supervision, and training to ensure best practice.
  • Participate in shift work, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins as required.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care (or willingness to work towards within 2 years).
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a residential or similar care setting.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and the needs of young people in care.
  • Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with young people.
  • Resilience, patience, and the ability to manage challenging behaviour constructively.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Experience working with young people with emotional, social, and behavioural difficulties.
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, therapeutic approaches, or positive behaviour support.
  • Experience working within Ofsted-regulated environments.
