Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioural Teaching Assistant (TA) to provide 1:1 support to a student with special educational needs within our mainstream high school. In addition to classroom support, the successful candidate will assist our sports teams during training sessions and school fixtures, promoting inclusive participation and helping students develop their skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a designated student, assisting with academic tasks, behaviour management, and social integration.
- Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of the special education team.
- Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, and other staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist the student in developing effective study habits, organisation, and time management skills.
- Support the school’s sports teams during training sessions and fixtures, ensuring all students, including those with special needs, are included and supported.
- Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere during sports activities, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, providing updates on the student’s progress and well-being.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children or adolescents with special educational needs, preferably in a school setting.
- Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and the ability to implement them effectively.
- Passion for sports and physical education, with the ability to motivate and support students in athletic activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting the holistic development of students.
- Relevant qualifications in education, special education, or a related field are preferred.
