You will play a key role in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), adapting curriculum delivery, and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide a holistic, student-centred approach to learning and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored teaching to students with a range of special educational needs, ensuring each learner has access to a meaningful and differentiated curriculum.
  • Plan, implement, and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in line with best practices and statutory requirements.
  • Monitor student progress using the school’s assessment framework and communicate regularly with parents, staff, and external agencies.
  • Set high, yet realistic, expectations for learning and behaviour, ensuring all students are motivated to succeed.
  • Create an inclusive and engaging learning environment using a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on, visual, and assistive technologies.
  • Maintain detailed records of student achievement and contribute to internal reports and external reviews.
  • Collaborate effectively with therapists, support staff, and teaching assistants to ensure consistency in educational and therapeutic support.
  • Support and supervise students during unstructured times, such as breaks, lunches, and off-site excursions, while ensuring all appropriate risk assessments are in place.
  • Prepare and lead IEP review meetings and contribute to multi-agency discussions where appropriate.
  • Participate in staff development programmes, INSET days, and contribute to curriculum planning for qualifications such as BTEC, IGCSE, NCFE, and ASDAN.
  • Promote strong relationships with parents, maintaining clear and regular communication regarding progress, routines, and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, organised, and stimulating classroom environment that supports the needs of all learners.
  • Provide clear leadership and direction to teaching assistants within your classroom or group.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognised qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN), or significant experience in an SEN-specific teaching role.
  • Proven experience supporting students with a range of additional needs including, but not limited to, ASC, ADHD, SEMH, and specific learning difficulties.
  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching strategies and the ability to implement personalised approaches.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and professional approach to team working.
  • Familiarity with relevant curriculum frameworks and SEN educational policy.
  • Experience working with international students or within culturally diverse settings (desirable but not essential).

Additional Information

  • Staff are expected to respect and adapt to the cultural values and customs of Bahrain and to comply with the organisation’s policies and professional standards at all times.
  • Duties may occasionally extend beyond those listed, subject to the direction of the Headteacher.
