We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEND Teacher to provide high-quality education and care for children aged 13 to 20 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The ideal candidate will be kind, nurturing, and skilled at building strong, student-centered relationships. They will be responsible for planning and implementing the relevant Key Stage curriculum, ensuring statutory requirements are met, while supporting each student’s development through a tailored, holistic approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to help each pupil reach their full potential.
- Plan, evaluate, and assess students’ progress following school policy, keeping accurate records of each pupil’s achievements.
- Set clear, challenging, and appropriate expectations for pupils’ learning and motivation, building on prior attainment.
- Utilize engaging teaching methods, fostering intellectual curiosity through effective questioning, clear presentation, and differentiation.
- Maintain a positive and productive learning environment, establishing and upholding high standards of discipline and positive relationships.
- Liaise with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Speech and Language Therapists to ensure a holistic approach is adopted for each pupil’s education.
- Collaborate with other teachers to monitor student progress and the effectiveness of teaching methods.
- Encourage pupils to develop self-discipline and positive behavior during unstructured periods such as breaks and lunchtimes.
- Supervise students on field excursions, ensuring risk assessments are completed before departure.
- Attend INSET days, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in SEND education.
- Work closely with teaching assistants to ensure clarity and consistency in classroom management.
- Maintain an organized, well-presented classroom environment and display students’ work attractively to showcase their efforts.
Qualifications & Experience:
- SEND qualification or relevant experience.
- Proven ability to write and implement IEPs, with strong knowledge of planning, evaluation, and assessment (PEAS) procedures.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and building relationships with parents.
- Ability to manage a well-structured classroom while delivering personalised education to SEND students.
