Overview
We are seeking a caring and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a learner with Down syndrome within a school setting. The role involves providing consistent, personalised support to help the learner access education, support learning, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to a learner with Down syndrome
• Support learning across the curriculum under the guidance of teaching staff
• Use adapted and multi-sensory approaches to meet individual needs
• Support communication, engagement, and independence
• Create a calm, positive, and structured learning environment
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and other professionals
• Support the learner’s social and emotional development

Essential Requirements

• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
• Previous experience working with learners with Down syndrome
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND
• Patient, flexible, and nurturing approach
• Ability to build strong, trusting relationships
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude

Desirable

• Experience working in a school or educational setting
• Knowledge of inclusive and SEND support strategies
• Understanding of EHCPs and individual support plans
